Tuscumbia, Alabama Elementary Refuses to Censor "Silent Night"

Good for Alabama! Merry Christmas!

A group of five, six and seven-year old children will be able to sing ‘Silent Night’ in their Christmas program after Alabama school officials decided to ignore a complaint filed by a group that called the song “unconstitutional.”

The news came as a relief to students and teachers at G.W. Trenholm Primary School in Tuscumbia, AL after they found themselves thrust into the war on Christmas.

“We’ve always sung ‘Silent Night’ and we’ve never had a problem,” Principal Janice Jackson told Fox News & Commentary. “We were just surprised, very surprised.”

Jackson said she received a letter from Americans United for the Separation of Church and State asking them to drop the song from their annual Christmas pageant.

“As a Christian minister, I love the hymn ‘Silent Night, Holy Night,’ but it’s not appropriate in this circumstance,” said Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United in a statement to Fox News & Commentary. “This play takes place at a public elementary school and involves very young children.” End Excerpt. These people could have caved in to pressure to attenuate their freedom of expression, but in this instance they stood up for their rights and wonder of wonders…….they won!

Every day, every day, every day we must be vigilant to the irrational attacks upon our freedoms.

The guitar chords and lyrics for ‘Silent Night’:
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, All is bright
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child
Holy Infant so Tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

  1. Hi Musemater,Rough week for me at work…the company that took over our hospital made alot of changes this week, demoted and cut people from full to part time just before Christmas…talk about the Grinch who stole Christmas! The enemy is definitely on the prowl looking to hurt as many as he can. I feel horrible about it all, sick to my stomach today…I know I shouldn't let it get to me, God is still on the throne, He sees everything much better than we do…but it does wear me down…Hope you have a wonderful and peace-filled Christmas full of the joy of our Lord and all He has done for us. 🙂

  2. Hello Susan, I'm praying your pathway will be lead by our Lord through the changes at work. I know many medical operations are going through these Grinch management cuts. Someone in my family lost a job in one of these, but wasn't in a technical job, so was "expendable" even though the job was quality-of-life-important. I know you're a valuable skilled person, so hang in there. We all may go through some "wild" times in 2012 & beyond, so we all have to remember just what you testify, "God is still on the throne."Especially when we don't feel strong it is amazing how He values our weakest obedience. Peace for your Christmas too, dear friend.:)

Lights to Musings
